Psoriasis Severity

Psoriasis is characterized as mild, moderate, or severe according to the amount of body surface area (BSA) affected and the severity of redness, thickness, and scaling of the skin.

Using the surface of the hand to equal 1% BSA, psoriasis is considered:

mild

when less than 3% of the body is affected

moderate

when 3% to 10% of the body is affected

severe

when greater than 10% of the body is affected

Other Aspects Matter Too

Severity is also measured by the physical and emotional impact of the disease on your life. Psoriasis can have a big effect on you. It’s important to talk to your doctor to develop a treatment plan that helps to manage your disease.
